Passport Stolen on Vacation???

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

With Spring here and Summer just around the corner, now is the time to start planning that getaway to Rome or cruise to the Bahamas. However, a great vacation can suddenly turn into a nightmare if your passport becomes lost or stolen. Here are some good tips to navigate through a potentially sticky situation:

- Keep a scanned copy of your passport in your secure “eMoney” Vault on the Magis Website (call or email the office and we can give you a hand with this).
- Make two copies of the passport prior to travel. Leave one copy with a relative or friend in the United States and keep one copy separate from the actual passport during travel.
- Report the loss to the nearest U.S. consulate or embassy.
- After reporting the passport as lost or stolen, the consulate’s office will be able to guide you through the process of replacing the passport. The process is usually much simpler if a photocopy of the passport is readily available.
